After many faithful visits from a close friend, I gave my heart to Jesus and became a follower of Jesus Christ on July 18, 1976, which is my spiritual birthday.
Beginning my spiritual journey God planted me in Calvary Baptist Church and Seminary in Lansdale, PA. While there I attended Bible Institute and got familiar with the Word of God. I was able to attend Bible studies and a door-to-door visitation program. God was preparing me for something.
During the mid-80’s I had my first encounter with a nursing home. An 80 year old Aunt, whom I was close to, had to be admitted to a nursing home in Norristown, PA. I began visiting her quite regular, sometimes several days a week, stopping on my way home from work. During this time I got acquainted with other residents in the home and realized they were all in need of prayer. This experience touched my heart. This went on for several months till my Aunt passed away.
I didn’t have another experience like this until in 1991. While I was attending a Baptist Church in Downingtown, PA., a Christian brother in Christ asked me if I would like to join him after church to a local nursing home. At this time I was introduced to a wonderful one-on-one, room-to-room, bed-to-bed ministry through my dear brother. After many visits for several weekends with my Christian brother, I went through a training class and became a certified chaplain. I have been serving God since 1991 in a number of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
In 2001, my wife, Pat, and I were led to move from Pennsylvania to Florida. I have been serving here in St. Petersburg for the last 10 years. For the last 4 years I have been training others to become Chaplains.
In 2011, I was encouraged to begin a new ministry here in St. Petersburg to train men and women to become Certified Ordained Chaplains that would serve in our local nursing homes on a week-to-week basis. This ministry is led by God and I believe everyone that sees the need to get involved is led by God. (Psalms 32:8) The ministry is growing and I conduct 3 to 4 classes a year for training men and woman to serve. Praise the Lord!
The need is so great! There are many nursing homes with so many residents that are helpless, lonely and some have given up on life. Many are not ready to cross over and need spiritual truth. The outreach and goal of this ministry is to come alongside these residents, encourage them from the Word of God and prepare them to cross over into eternity.
